6:55pm Push and Rest

So, we started our pushing around 5pm and now we’re on a break to let K’s body rest and recover. Given that we’ve tricked her body into labor, all of her key labor muscles (like the uterus) are exhausted. The doctor described it like being at the gym working out for 36 hours straight. (I assured her that I wouldn’t know what 36 minutes straight at the gym would feel like.)

So know we wait some more for the pitocin to kick our contractions back up so we can start pushing again.

Maureen finished her shift at 7p and we left her with a big hug. She was so helpful today Our old friend Joanne is back with us to take us home.

10:23am Quiet Time

After a night of rest (but not much sleep), we have been told by the new crew that the meds are doing exactly what we’re asking of them and now we wait.

I know. I know. Sounds a lot like the other updates, huh. Well, the doctors continue to remind us that we’re tricking the body to do something in 48 hours that usually takes a couple of weeks.

But Kirsten is finally getting more sleep. Gotta have plenty of rest for the pushing!!

Our room is super quiet and relaxing. I am reading all of your comments to Kirsten. She smiles and laughs at each one so keep them coming.

I will post as much as possible. As things progress, we will be moved to the OR to deliver. (All twin deliveries happen in the operating room.) I wonder if they get WiFi in there. “Um, nurse, do you know the MGH OR WiFi password?” Just kidding. Strict orders from the boss: No devices except the camera.

9:30pm Sox up 5-1

Hi Friends,

They say that inducing labor takes a while. Well, we’re learning just how long. Kirsten is doing a brilliant job but We’ve still got a ways to go.

We’re resting quietly on the 14th floor. Watching the Sox do a number on the Marlins. Lots of breathing. Lots of Coldplay.

We’re taking requests so send a “long distance dedication” to Kirsten and the twins.

Epideral coming in an hour or two. And then hopefully a couple hours of sleep.
